Absolutely right! I teach Cuban foreign policy in Africa. And my students are always surprised when I tell them that Cuba was the only country to defeat Apartheid South Africa militarily. Not once but twice (1975 & 1988), protecting Angola from occupation from Apartheid SA and playing big role in independence of Namibia. Cuba’s crucial role in the defeat of the Apartheid regime, at a time when it was supported by the US and its allies, is not a history Europeans and global elites are told or taught. Celebrate Mandela, sure, but don’t ask any questions…

I am incredibly proud of Isra and everyone who made the trip to Cuba. They took tons of aid to make sure the people of Cuba knew that there are so many people across the world who stand in solidarity with them. Cuba has always sent aid to countries in need and has trained thousands of physicians across the world, including my childhood physician. @israhirsi is more than just my daughter, she is a brilliant young leader who has always worked hard to advocate for a more just world. She inspires me and so many people with her leadership and dedication. I am forever fortunate to have her as my daughter but I am even more fortunate to know her as the unflinching justice warrior for justice she is. #letcubalive

This is what straight couples look like in Europe

when I visited Cuba I was overwhelmed by the vision of a better world that exists 90 miles from home. The US wants to starve out Cuba because the mere existence of a society built to care for people is a threat to capitalist empire. They don’t want us to know what’s possible.

This is a good idea. There’s a skepticism of tourism on the left, but for Cuba, tourism is one of their only ways to get hard currency to buy critical supplies. Go, bring a few pairs of underwear for yourself and 100lbs of supplies for Cubans (Not Just Tourists can help).
