Kagan is exceptionally dumb. We have lost nothing so far. Trump can win this war, if he chooses to. If he doesn't, then that will be a huge stain on his legacy. All he has to do is be willing to make the hard call.

Robert Kagan says that the U.S. has been checkmated into defeat in Iran which has seemed obvious since at least early March. But he sees the consequences as going far beyond the region; triggering a global arms race for naval power as countries seek to devise their own ways to protect their shipping routes since the U.S. maritime security umbrella is no longer effective. The revelations of U.S. industrial capacity shortcomings vis a vis munitions may also now tempt other countries to try their luck against a fraying unipolar order:

@MidwesternDoc This is all based on Old studies from the 2000s that have not been able to be replicated or proven in large double-blind studies. It is not a universal cure-all and over the counter. DMSO is not pharmaceutical grade and you don't have a way of properly administering it.

A very misleading statement. No, they were not building a nuke AT THE TIME, but they were still trying to dig out access to the bombed site that holds the enriched uranium. Once secured, they can build a weapon in short order. Ex-counterterrorism chief knows how to slant a statement very well. This is a good example of how they gaslight the public.

Why should we assume that the highly politicized U.S. intelligence community has correctly assessed that Iran does not currently possess a crude atomic device? Iran has benefited from decades of help from Pakistan and China, for instance. I believe the safer assumption is that the Iranians can put such a device together.

In his favor is the fact that he’s only 26 years old and that’s sort of the age of know at all syndrome. There is a regrettable portion of the conservative movement that jumps on everything and makes it a political issue. This is mostly by people who don’t have in-depth knowledge about a particular issue. Or like the one commenter below who apparently thinks spouting profanities help his argument.

This is completely unproven. There are oil slicks near Kargh Island but they're not large enough for wholesale dumping. There's also been damaged infrastructure from hostilities and oil slicks from leaking tankers etc. So there's a number of places where there's quite a bit of oil pollution in the Persian Gulf. There is no evidence of intentional dumping at this time.

The Saudis Kuwait others cut off American access because when Iran attacked the UAE and the other Gulf countries when we started the project freedom thing, we didn't help them and they were absolutely flabbergasted that we just blew it off as a minor issue. I think it's been worked out now and that we're going to continue escorting ships out. But also the latest proposal that we've made has been completely rejected and they're asking for reparations and the I'm afraid that Trump is boxed himself in by saying he's the war is over.
