In NY State the wage gap for full & part--time work is overall 88.7 cents to every $1 a non-Hispanic, white male earns, but for many women, especially women of color, the wage gap is as large as 56 cents 😨 We don’t have #EqualPayNY until ALL women have #equalpay!

Women in NY State make $10,437 less than their male counterparts each year, and women across the US lose almost $1.6 trillion annually. It is time to #endthepaygap. #EqualPayNY

The #WageGap keeps women in the cycle of poverty, unable to afford basic necessities. If it were eliminated, women would have additional money every year for: 🍼Childcare 🏡Rent 🏥Health insurance 📚Student loan debt #EqualPayDay #EqualPayNY

What causes the #wagegap? Gender and racial discrimination, workplace harassment, and a lack of policies that support caregiving in the workplace all contribute to the #genderpaygap, trapping women in cycles of poverty. Sound shameful? We think so too. #EqualPayDay #EqualPayNY

The #PaycheckFairnessAct will help close the gender pay gap by expanding protections for employees and empowering the Labor Department to better investigate wage discrimination. We’ve made great progress, but #EqualPayDay is a reminder that there’s much work to do.

Women – working full-time, year-round – are paid 84 cents for every dollar paid to men. Those disparities are more pronounced for women of color and women with disabilities. On Equal Pay Day, we call attention to an injustice that undermines women’s economic security.
