On This Day: Five years ago today, our team welcomed home the CCGS John Cabot. ⚓️🚢 Watching this offshore fisheries science vessel (OFSV) sail through the Narrows was a career highlight for many at Genoa. The CCGS John Cabot was the third and final ship designed under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, marking a major milestone in the program. Its 7,500-nautical-mile journey took it from Seaspan Shipyard in British Columbia, through Panama, and finally to its home port in St. John’s Harbour. A proud moment for our team and a testament to Canadian shipbuilding excellence!

Each year, we celebrate the Genoa team members who go above and beyond to live our core values both in and out of the workplace. 💙 These peer-nominated awards are presented at our annual GenoaCon internal conference and are a small but meaningful way to recognize just how exceptional our people truly are. We’re proud to work alongside a team of decision-makers and difference-makers who strengthen our organization, build lasting relationships, and do the unexpected. We’re pleased to share news that after 30 years, Genoa Design International is entering a new chapter. Genoa Design has agreed to be acquired by Membertou First Nation and Horizon Naval Engineering - a partnership that brings together Indigenous leadership, advanced marine industry experience, and a shared vision for growth in Canada’s shipbuilding sector. Fun Fact Friday: The Newfoundland dockyard in Marystown has been a cornerstone of Canadian shipbuilding since 1966! From building offshore fishing vessels to supporting Arctic and naval operations, this shipyard has shaped Newfoundland’s maritime heritage, building over 50 vessels, from fishing boats to coast guard ships. At its peak, it could lift vessels up to 280 feet long with its massive Syncrolift – a true engineering marvel.
