Geocoding in JavaScript just got an update 👀 We refreshed our tutorial with cleaner examples, better flow, and everything you need to turn addresses into coordinates (and back) without losing your sanity. 👉 geoapify.com/tutorial/how-t… Quick question: What’s your main use case for geocoding right now? • user input forms • logistics / routing • map visualizations • something more cursed #JavaScript #WebDevelopment #Geocoding #MapsAPI #Developers #APIs #GeoDev #LocationData #Coding

New article Routing API vs Route Optimization API — what’s the difference, and when should you use each? • Routing = point A → B navigation • Optimization = best order for multiple stops • Key for delivery, logistics, and planning apps To article: dev.to/geoapify-maps-… #Geoapify #Routing #Logistics #API #Developers

Avoid toll roads and ferries in your routes? Yes, it’s that simple. With Geoapify Routing API you can exclude specific road types like tolls or ferries to better match user preferences or reduce costs. Smarter routing = better user experience. #Geoapify #Routing #Maps #API #Developers

How do you get a city and postal code from coordinates? If you only have latitude and longitude but need readable address data like city, postcode, or street name, you need reverse geocoding. With the Geoapify Geocoding API, you can convert coordinates into structured address data in a single request. The API returns: • City • Postal code • Street • House number • State/region • Country • Formatted address Typical workflow: 1. Receive GPS coordinates 2. Send them to the Geoapify Geocoding API 3. Get structured address data back 4. Store or display the result We attached a short video showing how easy reverse geocoding works in our playground. Try it yourself: apidocs.geoapify.com/playground/geo… #Geocoding #GIS #Maps #APIs #LocationData #Developers

Completely agree. Public transport can make cities much more livable, but we also have to think about how people actually travel - not everyone is going from the same place to the same destination, and many trips are more complex than a simple city-center route. In theory it sounds fantastic, but in practice the system still needs improvements to become a real alternative for more people. We’re currently thinking about what would need to improve routing-wise to make public transport a realistic alternative to driving. If you have ideas on what could realistically be improved, we’d be very interested to hear your thoughts.

120 people travelling individually in 120 cars could instead ride in 1 #Vancouver articulated bus. When they do, it helps EVERYONE move easier. The math of urban mobility, explained to Vancouverites by @scienceworldca. Better mobility in cities is about space. #CityMakingMath

We’ve been thinking about what public transport would need to be like for people to see it as a real alternative to driving, not a downgrade. From a maps and routing perspective we can analyze accessibility and travel times, but we’re curious about the human side: What would public transport need for you to actually prefer it over driving? #mobility #publictransport #routing #urbanplanning #geospatial

Best practice: Combine all 3 approaches • App geolocation for precision • IP geolocation as fallback • Autocomplete for user control This gives the best balance of accuracy, reliability, and UX. #webdev #geolocation #api #maps

Handling user location in apps is trickier than it looks. GPS, IP, manual input — each has tradeoffs in accuracy and UX. Here are 3 practical approaches using Geoapify APIs 👇

20k players in 48 hours is impressive! 🚀 If the feature relies on Google’s photorealistic 3D, they’re unfortunately pretty hard to replace right now — there isn’t really an open-data alternative at that global scale yet. One thing you could try is reaching out to Google directly. Sometimes interesting projects get credits or special agreements, especially if they already have traction. It may help to talk to them at conferences, events, or through startup programs. With media coverage and that level of usage, your project could actually be a great showcase for them.

The new feature that allows you to sail anywhere in the world has been much more successful than I expected. + 20k people played since this post, 48 hours ago. + Was featured in a newspaper in argentina. - It costs me 50$ a day for google maps api. I tried to optimize the tiles but they are costly, to maintain this level of traffic It would take $1.5K per month. I see why Pieter Levels doesn't add google maps on his flying simulator or he would have to pay google a million dollar a month! So if you have monetizing ideas for this feature I am all ears! Or maybe you know of good quality tiles that are cheaper. Or any other solution! The only I can think of now is to paywall it with a really small monthly fee of 1 dollar.
