Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, popularly known as Alan Cash, placed second in the 2010 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary with 20.40% of the total valid votes cast. Nana Akufo-Addo won the contest overwhelmingly with 77.92% of the votes. This was his second attempt at the party’s leadership after coming in as first runner-up in the 2007 primary with 32.3% against Akufo-Addo’s 47.96%. In 2014, he made another bid and again finished in second place. During the initial screening process he received about 7.97% compared to Akufo-Addo’s dominant 80.81%, and in the final primary he garnered 4.75% while Akufo-Addo secured 94.35%.
