Looks like my network is larger on Bluesky, so there's no reason to stay here anymore. This platform is run by a proto-fascist billionaire. The only reasons left to stick around are gawking at the ugliness and stopping trolls from impersonating me. Bye! @georgefejer.bsky.social

In December, we are hosting a series of online Journal Club lectures on the "Promises and Pitfalls of Psychedelic Research" and "Neuroscientific Approaches to Researching Altered States of Consciousness" with a variety of speakers. More to follow in January! Here's a 🧵:

Finally, a working prototype of the Viscereality project, a bioresponsive VR interface for investigating breathwork and peripersonal space. It looks a bit as if we turned the Homological Scaffolds infographic of psychedelic effects into a VR experience ;) youtube.com/watch?v=sYErV8…

@GeorgeFejer @BignaLen @michagaebler Thank you, George, it’s very interesting. No, I wasn’t looking for something more specific. It’s the first time I heard of bio-responsive VR and was interested in learning what it is. I am also interested in altered states of consciousness so I got curious.

I am happy to have been accepted for a talk on my upcoming project to combine breathwork with a bioresponsive VR Interface, titled "Altered States of Viscereality" in collab with @BignaLen & @michagaebler

@WiringTheBrain Honestly, I doubt that the algorithms are made in a way where the presence of scientists will change the discourse on the platform, apart from that, people will go to social networks where the other people are, and scientists will go to where the other scientists are.

So, for now, I'm staying. I hope others will too. We can't, as scientists, just spend our time talking to each other. The stakes are just too high to cede the battleground of ideas, tempting as it may be. 6/6

My take on scientists leaving Twitter/X: It's great to see communities really developing on other platforms and there are lots of good reasons to boycott this place... 1/n

@Josh__Hardman Sure, just think of all the PTSD his presidency will cause, that will be sure enough reason to role out psychedelics. Supply and demand, increase demand!

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

Major academic publishers are getting sued for unlawfully appropriating billions of dollars. Prof. Lucina Qazi Uddin, a neuroscientist at UCLA, has sued these six academic publishers Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Sage, and Springer Nature. The lawsuit claims that these publishers violate antitrust laws on the following three grouds: 1. The publishers have colluded to fix the price of peer review at zero. 2. These publishers agree to not compete with each by making it obligatory for researchers to submit their work to only one journal at a time. 3. These publishers prohibit scholars from sharing scientific advancements while they are under peer review, which can take up to a year. Here's a comparison of the publishers' revenue and what they pay authors and reviewers Elsevier: $3.9 billion Springer Nature: $2 billion Wolters Kluwer: $1.6 billion Wiley: $1.8 billion Taylor & Francis: $800 million Sage: $500 million They pay: Authors: $0 Peer reviewers: $0

Two days ago, a lawfirm filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against 6 commercial publishers (incl Elsevier & Wiley) in the federal district court in New York. They allege a 3-part scheme on part of publishers. 🧵 lieffcabraser.com/antitrust/acad…
