In a world of screens and digital photography (I know, I know) there’s something immensely rewarding in using the old eyeball on a telescope approach to look at the full moon.
And then take a digital photo of it, of course!

Fluorescence was first discovered in the mineral fluorite (CaF2) in 1852, so it's super cool that my lab has just published work characterising a previously unknown emission from fluorite 171 years later! The peaks here are infrared emission from an ion defect in the CaF2 lattice
