Have you visited the Susie King Taylor Park? 🌳 Located in Midway, Georgia, this park honors the life and legacy of Susie King Taylor — a remarkable woman whose courage and dedication changed history. 📚 Susie spent her early childhood on a plantation in Liberty County. In 1855, she was allowed to live with her free grandmother in Savannah, where she secretly attended two schools despite education for African Americans being outlawed at the time. In April 1862, Susie escaped slavery with her uncle and others, finding refuge on Union‑occupied St. Simons Island. At just 14 years old, she became the first African American teacher to openly educate African Americans in Georgia. 🌿 Operated by the Susie King Taylor Museum and Ecology Institute, the Susie King Taylor Freedom Park spans 77 acres along Jones Creek in Liberty County. Portions of the land have served the community for over 40 years. Recently, a new pavilion and recreation area were added — and plans are underway for an eco‑friendly walking trail that will serve as a nature sanctuary. 🌱 We are honored to play a small part in this project through a $25,000 donation supporting future renovations, including the walking trail. Exciting news for Georgians! 🎉 Today we filed our expected Fuel Cost Recovery and Storm Cost Recovery cases with the Georgia Public Service Commission. The cumulative effect of the filings will result in overall lower rates for customers beginning this summer if approved by the Georgia PSC. But how does this work? Thanks to the strength of Georgia Power’s diverse generation mix and strategic fuel planning program, we have been able to reduce our fuel rate – decreasing the fuel portion of the bill significantly beginning in June. If approved, expected fuel savings will be more than enough to offset storm costs, which are the costs to quickly and safely restore electric service following storms of all sizes.
