My hot take about money in Nigeria. A lot of Nigerians are not actually broke… they just have terrible money habits and too much pressure to look successful. People earning decent money still end every month empty because everything is now about packaging, soft life validation, and keeping up with people online. Someone will earn ₦100k and still spend ₦80k on a phone they can’t comfortably afford… just because they don’t want people to think they’re struggling.. Few weeks ago, my team and I pulled off the second edition of the Women In DeFi Summit with the theme: "Beyond the Bridge: African Women Leading the Future of Web3." This year's theme was born out of our passion of not just onboarding & educating African girls and women about Web3, but to ensure that these ladies are being equipped with the knowledge & tools needed to contribute & build in the space, while also spotlighting those already doing it. This year's summit recorded over 500 physical attendees, a 43% increase from last year, showing the growing interest of women in Web3. The audience showed a mixed of creatives, newbies, developers, business drivers, and builders. With powerful sessions like "From Skill to Stack: Transitioning Into Web3 as a Builder," "Personal Branding for Women In Web3," "What to Know about Crypto Compliance in Africa," "Funding, Founding, and the Female Factor in Web3 & Blockchain" among others to help equip the participants with the right knowledge in getting into leadership in Web3. We also had the second edition of our WID Laptop Scholarship, an initiative with the aim of providing access where we had five beneficiaries.
