tuesday in manhattan: breakfast: russ & daughters cafe. potato latkes with applesauce and sour cream, black coffee. the woman at the next table was reading a hardcover biography of moses with a highlighter. at 9am. on a tuesday lunch: court street grocers in carroll gardens. the turkey club called the godfather. ate it standing on the sidewalk because there are four seats and a guy in a contractor vest was using two of them afternoon: walked across the brooklyn bridge for no reason. stopped at d'amico for an iced coffee. the same family has been roasting beans on court street since 1948 and the guy still acts annoyed when you order dinner: la grenouille. the dover sole, off the bone tableside. the captain has been there 38 years and corrected my french twice without breaking eye contact drinks: fanelli's. three negronis. a man at the bar told me he met his wife here in 1979 and she left him in 1986 and he still comes every tuesday. didn't ask why. didn't need to

The only surviving murals by the creator of Madeline are on the walls of a hotel bar on the Upper East Side In 1947, Ludwig Bemelmans broke, dodging creditors was asked to paint the walls of a new bar at The Carlyle Hotel Instead of cash, he negotiated 18 months of free room and board for himself and his entire family. Then he took his time The murals show Central Park across four seasons but Bemelmans style. Ice-skating elephants. Cigar-smoking bunnies. Rabbits in fedoras. Madeline and her classmates walking in two straight lines. He painted himself in as a waiter holding a bill He also painted murals in a Parisian nightclub, an Austrian restaurant, and on Aristotle Onassis's yacht. All of those are gone. This bar is the only place left on earth where his work is on public display The first draft of Madeline was written on the back of menus at Pete's Tavern downtown. The murals that brought her to life are here. The ceiling is covered in 24-karat gold leaf. The bartenders make an estimated 1,000 martinis a night Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Steve Jobs once shared an elevator in the building. JFK met Marilyn Monroe here. Bono, Mariah Carey, and Bill Murray have all jumped on the piano unannounced 35 East 76th Street. No reservations — expect a line. Rao's has 10 tables Every single one has been booked since 1977 You don't make a reservation — you inherit a table Tables are passed down through families. If you can't make it, you lend your table to someone. But it stays in your name There's no printed menu. An owner walks over and tells you what's available Cash or check only. The Christmas decorations never come down Bruce Springsteen was reportedly turned away In 2003, a man was shot and killed at Rao's because he insulted someone's karaoke singing In a city where everything changes, Rao's hasn't moved a single table in almost 50 years. That's either beautiful or insane. Probably both.

nice. 11 slots at Ambassadors Clubhouse. That's the toughest one in NYC at the moment. I already knew my notify system was better than Resy's, but I didn't know it was that good.

Semma NYC moved from Resy to SevenRooms... Clearly restaurants are not happy with Resy's response to bots and the increased no-shows that come with it. Either that, or SevenRooms (now owned by doordash) paid them a bunch of money.

One of the few Michelin ⭐️ restaurants in Dallas, Mamani is lead by Chef Christophe De Lellis who brings an impressive pedigree indeed, having led the kitchen at Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas for nearly a decade. Christophe and I got to talk about our love of Rabbit and the Dallas food scene, humble guy, I’ll be excited as his career clearly continues to grow! Lovely open kitchen, energetic environment, music and fixtures really top notch aesthetically. Started out with their Meloncholy Cocktail made with Lavender Grey Goose Vodka, Manzanilla Sherry, Cantaloupe, Bitter Bianco. Along with the Bread We Bake & Rodolphe Le Meunier Butter, bread was excellent, 3 varieties and the butter was amazing, topped with Maldon’s. Cocktail was really refreshing, served in a still iced glass. Their Croquettes with the unmistakable Benton's Country Ham and Manchego would do José Andrés proud. Crispy outside, creamy inside. Hokkaido Scallops & Caviar with Grapefruit, Watermelon Radish and Yuzu was amazing. Hey, what about Nantucket Scallops, why does every M⭐️ go to Hokkaido when we have great Scallops here? Still, was amazing. For starter had Smoked Beets with Stracciatella, Salsa Macha and Basil Oil paired with the 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Burgundy from their ample wine list, every drink served in perfect elegant glassware. The salt roasted and cold smoked beets were fantastic, and just enough texture to play well with the cheese, and they worked well with the White Burgundy. For my main course as I was just saying I don’t see enough Rabbit on menus, enjoyed the Tagliatelle with Rabbit Ragu Bianco, Fennel, and Spring Peas. Paired with the 2022 Santenay Terre D'Enfance, Burgundy. The Red Burgundy was very nice, exceeded my expectations for what I think is like $40 at retail, the nose alone was worth more than that. Having said that, the Rabbit would have been more correctly paired with the white. The dish was probably my favorite of the night. Super flavorful with perfectly cooked pasta. Mamani well worthy of its M⭐️ and I won’t be surprised when the win their 2nd. Mamani now my favorite restaurant in Dallas.
