This was a very fun project! I’m happy to see the results published today (and now I can finally share this LBTI image!)

I'm happy to share this exciting result that @StewardAstro PhD student @ggdoubleu played a major role in! WISPIT-2b is one of the few known accreting protoplanets, allowing us to directly study how planets form. Read more in the paper from Close et al.: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.384…

@BlaughJoseph @AstroWagner @StewardAstro In order to see the disk and planets around the central star, we model and subtract the starlight out of the telescope images before averaging them to produce what you see here. The star would otherwise be around 500x brighter than the planets in this image

A team of astronomers from the University of Arizona has discovered a growing planet, WISPIT 2b, outside our solar system. This discovery provides evidence that protoplanets can create gaps found in planet-forming disks. kvoa.com/news/u-of-as-t…

We also fit atmospheric models to photometry of HII 1348B and infer the possible formation channels and dynamical interactions for this triple system.

I'm very excited to share that my first (and first-author) publication is up on the arXiv today! arxiv.org/abs/2501.16429 We studied a circumbinary brown dwarf companion in the Pleiades with direct imaging taken using both apertures of the Large Bincocular Telescope.

I'm happy to share this paper by @StewardAstro PhD student @ggdoubleu on an intriguing substellar companion in the Pleiades! Few such objects are known, and understanding the orbit of HII 1348B helps to piece together its method of formation. arxiv.org/abs/2501.16429

A new image released from the Large Binocular Telescope showing Jupiter's moon Io. The sharpest ever taken from a ground based telescope and well beyond what even HST has produced. From Earth Io spans around 1 arc second across. news.berkeley.edu/2024/05/30/wit…
