SEVENTEEN officially debuted on May 26, 2015 with the EP '17 Carat', which became the longest-charting K-pop album of that year in the US and the only rookie album to appear on Billboard's "10 Best K-Pop Albums of 2015" list. On September 10, 2015, SEVENTEEN released their 2nd EP 'Boys Be', which became the best-selling rookie Album of the year! On October 28, 2020, Seventeen received a Prime Minister's Commendation at the Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards in honor of their contribution to the development of South Korea's contemporary pop culture and arts. In September 2021, they were awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 2021 Newsis K-EXPO Cultural Awards. Since their debut in 2015, SEVENTEEN has consistently engaged in philanthropy, making annual donations on their anniversaries and members' birthdays to education, disaster relief, children in need, and animal welfare. They expanded globally by participating in UNESCO Youth Forum activities and, in 2024, became the organization's first Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth, pledging $1 million to launch the "Going Together" Global Youth Grant Scheme that has funded around 100 youth-led projects in creativity, well-being, and mental health in over 70 countries. SEVENTEEN made a 1 BILLION KRW (~$682,000) donation for 2025 South Korea wildfire relief and $250,000 to UNESCO (from sacai x SEVENTEEN charity auction) for the Global Youth Grant Scheme on International Youth Day!
