My Brooke is finally at peace. (@VoiceofRita)
She battled more illness in her short time than anyone could bear. She didn't let illness define her, but wore her scars like badges of honor. She was my warrior princess and I'm lucky she was mine.
She had the softest heart. She cared so deeply for everyone. She wanted to know everything about you, it didn't matter if you were family, her nurse, or customer service reps. She made friends everywhere we went. She once spent 4 hours on the phone with her Uber driver because a 20 minute ride wasn't enough time, true story. She was the one you'd call, and she'd talk you down. She touched so many in her 45 years, and we were all lucky to have had her.
She was such a fun person. We joked that it should be illegal to have this much fun doing nothing. She was usually the last one to leave a party, but only after she collected phone numbers for everyone she just met. She touched so many people and there is a big void in our lives today.
She didn't like being called stepmom, she preferred bonus mom, but she stepped up. She wiped tears, she potty trained, she put life on hold to be what they needed. She shared her vast knowledge of how to look and smell beautiful, and injected some girly girl into them. Frankly, I couldn't have done it without her, and her spirit lives on in them. Those girls hit the stepmom jackpot.
Even though she was my warrior princess, she had fought enough, and she was tired. She saw another mountain in front of her and didn't have the strength. She had faith she was going to a better place, and she finally has no more pain. Brooke went out on her own terms, and we all have to be OK with that.
She left a small piece behind. Brooke was an organ donor, and there was one part of her left unbroken. Someone is going to get her beautiful green eyes. I hope whoever gazes into them every day appreciates them as much as me.
I love you with all my heart my Brooke. I love that I can now filter out the bad times and decide to remember the times we felt on top of the world. I love the memories we made. I love the family we built together. I love the millions of inside jokes we could never tell another soul. I love that we created a happy home. Our time together was too short, but I cherish every day.
Rest peacefully my Brooke, you've earned it
