@supaculia The top 10% of earners already pay for nearly 3/4 of all tax revenue in this city. "Tax the rich" is what has already supported this city's budget for years.

@gharrison05 It will be mixture of both. Huge spending cuts to agencies will have a negative impact on services plus political fallout. Taxing rich will help to generate needed revenue. Nobody is saying that more efficiency/savings is not needed. But no reason to not go for a popular move.

Good numbers for Zohran keeping in mind the non stop propaganda & hit job attempts against him in mainstream media. However Kathy's refusal to tax the rich & drawing budget fight long is hurting her with Nyc voters & impacting Zohran numbers too as people worry what will happen.

@supaculia The latest municipal bond offering was downsized by $300 million due to lack of demand. Investors are not buying into the mayor's spending plans. There is a huge pending hole coming in the budget and if a deficit is over $100m, then budget authority shifts to Albany.

@supaculia You have to look at the arithmetic. The annual increases in fixed costs is more than any tax hike can support. Companies like JP Morgan and Apollo are already moving offices to Florida and Texas. You can't keep raising taxes on the same base without ramifications.

@supaculia To clarify, the city can’t solve its budget gap just by taxing rich. Top 1% filers already are ~45% of NYC tax revenue and top 10% ~70%. You risk pushing those earners out of NYC. But large fixed costs like pensions and debt continue to outpace what higher taxes alone can cover.

@gharrison05 Same poll shows tax rich proposal with 53-30(+23) favorable ratings. It's popular move especially in nyc for which it will only apply. With nyc budget woes solved, her numbers will improve in the nyc.
