Standardized testing reform in public education is long overdue. Though I don’t often agree with @TNGOP, they’re on the right track with this particular conversation. The burden on classroom teachers is too much. tennesseelookout.com/2025/08/04/giv…

Oh my! Oh my! This is Hub City Central Complex, home of the Cougars. This is the actual field and not a rendering. Drive by and honk your horn at the workers; they are doing an incredible job!

CHALKBEAT: “@GovBillLee said Wednesday he’d welcome closing the U.S. Department of Education under Trump’s administration…” We get $1.6 Billion yearly from the federal government, intended for our most vulnerable kids. chalkbeat.org/tennessee/2024…

As Trump moves to end the Dept of Ed — Tennessee gets almost 40% of our budget from the federal government, one of the most federally-dependent states. $1.6 BILLION in federal Ed funds Targeted to poor kids and children with disabilities. Grandstanding has consequences.

TN Republicans and Democrats should be on the same side of this discussion - tax dollars are spent more effectively and learning increases when testing isn’t given the power it’s been given in Tennessee.

rather than free up schools to create content that would foster the most engagement in the learning process, lower income schools are handcuffed to gaming the system through “test prep” rather than organic teaching and learning which actually has a much greater impact on students

We know the dangers of vouchers and forcing charter schools into districts who don’t want them, but it’s past time that we talk about where public ed is failing. The first stop: testing based on academic standards that don’t measure student learning equitably or accurately. 🧵
