🌊🌱 Embracing Sustainability: Giving Second Life to Ghost Nets! 👏 The Ghost Diving Spain chapter has successfully retrieved many nets, relieving the #marine environment in #TossadeMar. 🌊👏 #SustainableLiving#OceanConservation
Retrieved nets, released lobsters & crabs - a successful day!🤘🦞
#volunteers were quite busy today with removing ghost gear from the #sea off the #CostaBrava during the first project day with @healthyseas_org & partners 😎
We're looking forward to retrieving a big net tomorrow🔱
Ghost gear #catching ghost gear?! 😳 - Day 2 in #Spain was intense! 💪
#volunteers retrieved a huge bundle of #ghostgear & it took 6 people three entire hours to separate it😅
This way, we discovered that the bundle contained six different types of #nets of different ages🦀
Today, we retrieved a bundle of 6 different #nets & a broken #crabcage that were lost or #abandoned during 6 different points in time 🤯🦀 #Volunteers spent over 3 hrs on this & we're all deeply impressed by the #ghostdiving Spain chapter that encounters things like this often🔱
Diving is only 1 part of what we do!🤘🪼
After #ghostnets are sent up, we need to separate them😳Why? Because #ghostgear can catch ghost gear and we're left with a huge bundle of mixed materials🧐To be able to re- & upcycle any of it, they need to be sorted manually first 💪
It's teaser time! 😉
After cleaning up 76 tons in 2021, this year we've returned to Ithaca to continue the massive "ghost farm" clean up! 💪
We've joined forces with team of #volunteers and #partners and recovered another 25 tons of ghost gear and marine litter together 🔱
Happy Animal Monday! ☀️🏝️
Sometimes we release the most amazing looking creatures from ghost gear ✨
Could you name this cute crab species? 🐚🦀

Shallow retrieval #missions aren't always easy! 😅
It took 3 dives over several days to recover the whole net from a #reef in the #RedSea 🤘
It was located directly on the edge of the reef flat to the drop off to deeper waters & completely entangled in #corals! 🪸@healthyseas_org
🤔We’re thinking about #longlines 🎣
Shorter, hooked branch lines are attached at one main line which can be multiple #kilometers in length! 😮
That means #thousands of hooks can hang from a single line! 💥
Sharks, albatross, turtles & dolphins can get caught in long lines 🐬
In collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, and our partner @healthyseas_org , our new documentary miniseries, Going Circular, launches today! Over the series, you'll find out how waste can be transformed into an eco-friendly resource. Watch now: youtube.com/watch?v=6w2OZM…
