Molla Mehmet Karayılan taught the French that the Turks couldn't be colonized 🇹🇷🇫🇷 When the French army occupied the city of Antep in Türkiye after WWI, Karayılan did not wait for orders from Istanbul. He gathered local fighters, armed civilians, and turned neighborhoods into resistance lines. He led raids on French supply convoys, set up ambushes on key roads, and struck military positions around the city, disrupting their control and exhausting their forces. He transformed Antep from an occupied city into a fortress of resistance. He was martyred in 1920 during clashes, but his defiance became part of the spirit that proved the Turks would never give up. Karayılan was defending his homeland, and he made one of Europe’s best armies bleed for every street. Eventually, the French army withdrew from Antep due to the determined resistance of the Turkish people.
