@MartinBarrow @hackerhowroyd Quite clearly didnt say all, I said there is good and bad homes in both and I dont like a 1-4 ratio which i see a lot of currently.

@ghyllbank @hackerhowroyd Your argument is like saying we can nationalise rail or water because all the expertise is in the private sector. The whole arrangement needs to be reset.

When I call for children’s homes and foster care to be put under public ownership, I’m told that it can’t be done. Yet the Government has quietly renationalised most of the rail network.

@MartinBarrow @hackerhowroyd Im sorry but im not sure why what I said needed you to bite. We are all entitled to our say. We are both putting the child first with differing views. I have written a therapeutic model, fostered and now complete education & therapy for children in care. My views are just my own

@ghyllbank @hackerhowroyd Ok, I’ll bite. Council homes have been massively defunded for at least a generation, with hundreds of millions of pounds bleeding out to the private sector. Despite this, LA homes match private homes in terms of Ofsted ratings 1/

@MartinBarrow @hackerhowroyd We shouldn't run our homes just to fit in with ofsted. A snapshot of a school and homes over 2 days does not negate hard work. Im sure you have been in an inspection so you know what I mean. And sometimes moving a child away gives them chance to recover...

@hackerhowroyd @MartinBarrow Im not sure Local Authority homes are the answer. A lot are less than 1-1 and sometimes are 1 staff to 4. How does that give each child what they deserve? As a fostercarer and educator of children in the care system I see some good work by staff from private as well as LA

@MartinBarrow Definitely can be done but needs to be done very carefully to manage the market so as not to put any child at risk. Starting place is for LA’s to build their own homes

Over the past week I have noted no fewer than 14 children’s judged inadequate by Ofsted or where monitoring visits have identified serious failings. Three are run by councils, the rest are privately owned. This is a typical week, I would say.

I have a child in limbo whilst we argue between foster child who lives in one county and the belonging authority refusing to pay for school. Poor child not in a school whilst the argument goes on. What regs trump the others?

@garethkthomas Talking about how children should be treated in school isn't about education and some teaching professionals need a better understanding of managing children with trauma so dont be quiet. I am a carer myself, train on attachment and run an educational provision.

@MartinBarrow @JakeBenRichards @politicshome Absolutely its not. How many parents move their child from a school where they are being bullied? Quite a lot they don't always wait till the bullies are managed.

1. why should a child be forced to move because of the criminality of others? That’s victim blaming. Akin to asking women to behave in a certain way because of abusive men.

@MartinBarrow @JakeBenRichards @politicshome From someone who fosters, a fresh start away from the mentality of others influencing you can be the answer. For some I agree not the right move but just like children in the care system, one size doesn't fit all. I'm not saying they should forcibly be removed either.

@Camelgod3 @SpcialNdsJungle I think they believe you can't have Autism and a mental health issue it can only be one or the other. I have referred so many young people and its just put down to their Autism and discharged
