“I want to hug my daughter. That’s what I survived for.”
Meet Yaroslav, callsign ‘Mudryi’ - The Wise One.
A few days ago he came back from holding the line for 86 straight days in Sumy region, alongside his brother-in-arms ‘Gnom’.
Before the war, he was a sculptor and painter. On February 24, 2022, he enlisted. He repairs drones directly on position. He writes poetry between missions.
When asked what keeps him going he just said ‘My daughter motivates me. I know where my place is. I am where I belong.’
This is who is defending Ukraine.

Firefighting is underway in Lutsk following an overnight attack by Russian “shaheds.” The strikes hit purely civilian facilities – the Russians destroyed food warehouses and a Nova Post terminal. A residential building was also damaged. All necessary units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and municipal services have already been deployed to deal with the aftermath of this attack. Overnight, the Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions also came under Russian attacks. There are still “shaheds” in our skies. In total, Russia used 339 drones against Ukraine during the night, around 200 of them “shaheds.”
Today will be a pretty busy diplomatic day – many contacts have already been scheduled, and this nighttime attack is effectively Russia’s response to diplomatic efforts. We proposed a ceasefire for Easter – in response, we’re getting “shaheds.” We also proposed a ceasefire specifically regarding energy infrastructure – the Russians ignore this and once again attempt to strike our substations and transformers. Ukraine is working with partners to expand joint capabilities to protect lives, while Russia continues to prolong the war in Europe, and by sharing its intelligence with the Iranian regime it is openly investing in fueling war in the Middle East and the Gulf.
Russia is the global threat, and its disregard for life and peace is what obstructs any diplomacy. I am grateful to everyone who supports our efforts to protect lives, and to everyone who ensures the enforcement of sanctions against Russia for this war. The higher our interception rate of Russian drones and missiles, and the higher the percentage of restrictions on Russian oil, trade, and production, the sooner security will be ensured and peace established.
