generally i break it down to a base (all one color, essentially a silhouette.), reflections (which actually give the base a shape and planes), and highlights, just to make it look pretty. (joke, these are our actual light sources, these are the harshest part.) stock image ref.

mmm it is kind of hard to explain since i mostly just block in colors, but my main tip is to NOT BE SCARED OF HARSH CONTRAST!!! latex is a VERY reflective material and will always have very harsh highlights. most shapes are created through reflective contours. cont below.
