@gingerluci Ok, thank you!! I applied for licensing permission to open every evening, just to cover us for events, which maybe flagged it to them as a permanent space as opposed to the Fri-Sat we’ll actually be opening. Really useful advice, thanks lovely xx

Does anyone have experience with planning permission and use classes with regard to breweries where a taproom is an ancillary use of the premises? Given how many breweries run taprooms in industrial units, it seems pretty common.

@LilyWaite_ I think there was maybe a number (14%) that then classed it as ancillary. We are B2 industrial still. What I would say is don’t be afraid to ask for advice from your council planning dept. Ours were happy to talk us through stuff but I didn’t realise that for ages!

@LilyWaite_ Yeh-we got a certificate of lawful use for ours; primarily so we didn’t have to go through change of use (though to be honest I don’t know why we didn’t!). The certificate requires us to be open an “ancillary” amount to the 24-7 brewery ops. So we are limited to 26hrs per week.

It's that time of year where I get to share my favourite photo of my Dad, taken 8 years ago yesterday. He's drinking a pint of our first ever cask that was tapped, after he'd helped me build the brewery. It still brings me to tears but they're happy tears.
