MDW expectations vs. reality.

Last night, the newest Goals + Assists scholars attended where they reviewed scholarship expectations, met their Alumni Advisors, and participated in an "Onboarding Workshop" to complete important tasks for their transitions to six partner schools.

4 years ago, they crossed the stage at Senior Night. In a few weeks we celebrate them again as postsecondary graduates!

It was an honor to emcee this year’s Flyers Cup Awards Luncheon, especially since the Hound was getting this award. He’s been a @NHLFlyers organizational treasure for over half a century! Congrats to Bob and all the award winners!

This afternoon, @FlyersAlumni members surprised Bob "The Hound" Kelly with the Joe Scott Unsung Hero Award for his work with @TheFlyersCup! The award is given annually to someone who helps to promote and grow scholastic hockey. 👏

52 years ago today, @bernieparent and the @NHLFlyers won their first Stanley Cup. 2 million people showed up for the parade/party.

May 19th OTD 1974 Stanley Cup Final, The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA: Goaltender Bernie Parent and the Flyers shut out the Boston Bruins, 1-0, to win series 4-2, become 1st "expansion" team to win Stanley Cup; Parent named playoff MVP May 19, 1974. Talk about one of the absolute greatest days in Philadelphia sports history! When Bernie Parent stopped that final Ken Hodge slap shot, the Broad Street Bullies didn't just win a championship—they completely shocked the hockey world. No "Next Six" expansion team was supposed to take down the mighty "Original Six" Boston Bruins, especially a powerhouse led by Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. Here is why that game and series are completely legendary: Bernie was a Brick Wall: Bernie Parent’s performance in Game 6 wasn't just clutch; it cemented him as a Philly immortal. He stopped all 30 shots he faced. His legendary Conn Smythe-winning playoff run is still considered one of the greatest goaltending showcases in NHL history. The Only Goal They Needed: The lone goal of the game came in the first period on a power play. Rick MacLeish deflecting a Moose Dupont shot past Gilles Gilbert. The Spectrum absolutely erupted, and that 1-0 lead held up for the next 45 minutes of grueling, nerve-wracking hockey. The Kate Smith Magic: Before the puck even dropped, the Flyers played their ultimate trump card. Kate Smith performed "God Bless America" live on the ice. The Bruins tried to shake things up by having Esposito present her with a bouquet of flowers, but the Spectrum crowd was already in a frenzy. With her singing in the building, the Flyers' mystical win streak remained untouched. Gene Hart's Iconic Call: For fans listening at home, Gene Hart delivered the lines that still give Philly fans goosebumps: "The countdown is on... 5 seconds left... Sign of the cross by Parent... The Flyers win the Stanley Cup! The Flyers win the Stanley Cup!"
