I am really happy to start my new journey as Director General of Fondazione Festival Pucciniano, a foundation that celebrates opera, this "genial Italian invention," and a modern maestro like Giacomo Puccini at its heart.

10 Excellent Books on Growth and Development 1) The Power of Creative Destruction -Aghion, Antonin + Bunel This book builds a coherent model of schumpeterian competition. Importantly, it pairs this with quantitative evidence.

Happy birthday to Albert Hirschman, who would be 109 today. Hirschman—anti-fascist, resistance hero, later a development economist—may be the most interesting person to ever take up the profession. 🧵 and blog post on his remarkable life and work.

The 1.1 million people killed at Auschwitz were born as far away as Finland and Morocco. This map shows the last recorded residence (or birthplace, if the pre-Holocaust home is unknown) of all identified Jews killed at Auschwitz. Source: buff.ly/30Y9Bwd

‘Why are authoritarian regimes so afraid of Europe? We do not wage war, we do not impose our model. So why? Our values make them afraid.’ David Sassoli’s question now feels like a prophecy. One year after his passing, David’s memory still warms our hearts and shows us the way.
