Astonishing to me and my grad students how hard it is to pin down what actual Jim Crow laws were in effect at any given time and place. This project aims to fix that by paying you to do your own work in their archive and report results! Win/win.

U.S. scholars: $10k for faculty and $2500 for grads to use any On the Books products (NC legal corpora, scripts, workflows). Scripts & workflows cover page segmentation, OCR, & text classification. Corpora: 1866-1967 NC session laws & likely Jim Crow laws. Proposals due 7/15/22.
