Introductions I’ve become much more active on X/Twitter since Elon Musk bought the company, so I thought that I’d introduce myself. My name is Justin and I’m a few weeks away from turning 51 years old. I grew up in the cornfields of rural Northern Illinois, and I have lived in Virginia since 1990. I’m a proud Hokie. I founded a boutique consulting business about 15 years ago which is how I earn a living. I have two children from a previous marriage. I have a fantastic and beautiful girlfriend named Debbie.  I’m looking to make connections with cool folks. I like traveling and the outdoors, from-scratch cooking, fine woodworking, camping/RV’ing, and gardening. We eat well when we are “camping”. Yum.

This is an inexpensive way to travel. I call it our “mobile hotel room”. I’m planning to spend a couple months out west later this year visiting National Parks and seeing the sites. This weekend we are just hiking, fishing, and visiting with a friend (who has a new-to-him camper van).

Got in a hearty breakfast cook in a Dutch Oven and a seven-mile walk in the mountains. Beautiful spring day. Tonight: Filet mignon, twice-baked potatoes, rolls, and brownie w/ice cream for dessert. And sharing a bottle of Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon with friends. This is what I refer to as “camping”.

We are “camping” this weekend in the mountains of western Virginia. Hiking, fishing, and relaxing.

@BoomerDivvies Don’t have a limit. Amex has a thing where you put in an amount and they tell you if it’d be approved. Once like a year ago I kept going higher until I hit $250k. Approved. Stopped there so no clue how high it’d go.

What’s your credit limit on your main credit card? We’ve only switched to this card 6 months ago but they already upped our limit to $47,000. Seems excessive, since we have two other cards with $30k and $23k limits. That’s $100k, and they’re all from the same bank 🤯

@RoaringHammy I gave notice this week and finish work at the end of June. I’m not calling it “retirement”; rather, I’m thinking of it as a personal experiment to see what it’s like to not work for a while…to see if I like it. I think I’m way too young to really retire.

How often do you think about retirement from your current job? I think about it every Sunday night to Thursday 🤣🤣

Obvious, of course, but the interesting phrasing makes you think about what’s possible.

I love reading and watching financial independence podcast where they reveal their monthly spend and their portfolio value etc. Those just resonate more with me than those who don't disclose maybe because i love numbers 😂😂 Are you like that?

Well, I did it. I informed my work this week about my personal experiment: to see what it’s like to not work for a while. I’m committed to a thorough and successful transition. When’s the last time you did something completely new and different?
