Sheikh Burahan, the spokesperson for the militant group ARSA, released a video via the "ARSA Spokesperson" Telegram channel on May 2, claiming that the group is receiving backing from the Bangladeshi government. In the video, Sheikh Burahan stated, "The Bangladeshi government is now supporting us from behind." He issued threats to launch violent attacks against the people of Arakan and vowed to reclaim lands in Buthidaung and Maungdaw where the Rakhine people are currently establishing new villages and farming". Furthermore, he urged the Rohingya population to unite against the Arakan Army (AA) and expressed gratitude to the President of Bangladesh for providing them refuge. These statements appear to be a strategic move to mobilize the community through inflammatory rhetoric.

Muslim refugees in the Kutupalong refugee camp are demanding that authorities take action against crimes committed by members of the Muslim extremist group ARSA within the camps in Bangladesh, according to reports from Bangladeshi media. Refugees have been seen chanting and declaring that ARSA is nothing more than a group of thieves and dacoits, stating that no one in the camp supports any youth who aligns with the group. A local Muslim woman named Rozia, from Block C of the Kutupalong refugee camp, shared her recent ordeal: "Last night, while my family was sleeping, they came and knocked on our door, forcing their way in. I think there were about four or five men. I opened the door out of fear. They entered and asked if anyone else was in the house. I told them it was just my family, but they didn't believe me and searched everywhere. They then forcibly seized my phone." globalarakannetwork.com/post/muslim-re…

Concerns are mounting that the arrest of displaced Muslim youths by administrative bodies and nationalist extremist groups in Dawbon Township, Yangon Region, may be an attempt to incite racial conflict within the current political climate. On the evening of May 2, ward administration officials conducted inspections at several houses in Nwe Aye Ward, Dawbon Township, and arrested nearly 50 displaced Muslims who had fled from Rakhine State to that ward. It is reported that about 50 people in total consisting of 40 displaced Muslim youths who fled the battles in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships, and 10 teachers providing them with education were arrested and taken away by a combined force of Ma Ba Tha monks and the ward administration team. globalarakannetwork.com/post/racial-te…

The military and political landscape of northern Arakan has stabilized under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). However, activities within refugee camps across the border in Bangladesh are emerging as a grave challenge to border stability. Specifically, the complex relationship between Bangladesh authorities and Muslim armed groups is severely undermining regional security. According to a report by the International Crisis Group (ICG) published on June 18, 2025, Bangladesh security agencies have been openly supporting a "unification" movement among Muslim armed groups. While these agencies maintain contact with the AA, they appear to be playing a balancing act by simultaneously empowering these armed factions under the pretext of reducing camp violence. globalarakannetwork.com/post/muslim-ar…

A battle broke out between the Muslim armed groups ARA (Arakan Rohingya Army) and RSO (Rohingya Solidarity Organisation) in the Chakmakata area located in Bangladesh. According to a report by TTN, a local Bangladeshi news agency, the clash has caused panic and heightened anxiety among residents living near the border. Sources indicate that the armed conflict took place on Friday between AM and AM. While those sources claim the exchange of fire occurred approximately 2 kilometers east of the 'Zero Line' between border pillars 19 and 20 inside Myanmar territory, local residents assert that the fighting actually took place within Bangladesh. globalarakannetwork.com/post/clash-bre…

May 1, 1994, marks a critical attempt at revolutionary unity with the formation of the National United Party of Arakan (NUPA). Created through the merger of four nationalist factions, including a wing of the Communist Party of Arakan, NUPA sought to consolidate the fragmented resistance into a single, potent force. Its armed wing, the Arakan Army (a predecessor to the current namesake), represented a shift toward a more inclusive and strategic struggle for sovereignty. Despite facing immense external pressure, including the 1998 arrests of its leadership on Landfall Island by Indian authorities, NUPA’s ideological foundation remained resilient. The organization proved that Arakanese nationalism could be both militarily assertive and diplomatically sophisticated. Read More in This Link - globalarakannetwork.com/post/national-…

The Myanmar military junta, which currently controls Sittway in Arakan, abducted approximately 70 local residents—including 40 Muslims—on April 27, according to local reports. The detainees include around 30 Arakanese nationals from Bauk Thee Su, Kyaung Tet Lan, and Lan Madaw South wards, as well as 40 Muslim men from Ha Ree Village. A combined force of the military, police, and immigration officers conducted the arrests around 11:00 PM on April 27, using "overnight guest list inspections" as a pretext to enter homes and apprehend the individuals. Family members of the abducted residents have reportedly pleaded for their release, but the junta forces have refused, instead demanding ransom payments.

April 27, 2014, marks the opening day of the Fourth Arakan National Conference, held in Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State from April 27 to May 1, 2014 . The conference brought together representatives from various Arakanese organizations, including political parties, armed resistance groups, intellectuals, and civil society, to address the ongoing conflicts in the region. Significantly, Bridger-General Nyo Twan Awng of the Arakan Army (AA) attended the convention, marking a rare and ‘first’ public appearance of an AA military leader at a political gathering within Rakhine State. The convention aimed to achieve three objectives: "to promote solidarity among the Arakanese people; to bring about ethnic equality and justice; and build a secure, peaceful and progressive Arakanese society" . For the Arakan Army, participation signaled its emergence not merely as an armed group but as a political actor seeking legitimacy. The April 2014 convention was historically significant because it represented one of the first major public forums where Arakan Army leadership engaged openly with civilian political parties and civil society inside Myanmar. At the time, the AA had not signed a ceasefire agreement with the government, and AA leadership emphasized that excluding armed organizations would render the conference "meaningless".
