I I’ve been on both sides of the fundraising table, hunting for capital as a founder and getting bombarded with pitch decks as an investor. It’s funny how something as mundane as “PDF versus link” can spark so much drama, but believe me, it happens all the time. From my perspective, founders love sending link-based decks (DocSend, Papermark, you name it) because they can track who’s looking at which slides, update content instantly, and keep a tighter leash on who sees their confidential stuff. Meanwhile, investors often prefer a simple PDF because it’s easier to share internally and doesn’t come with all that spammy follow-up baggage some link platforms can generate. If you’re worried about controlling access to your deck—maybe you’ve got a big idea you want to keep hush-hush, then go with a link. If, on the other hand, you want the widest possible distribution and zero friction for investors, PDFs probably make more sense. Or do both: send out a short, “safe-to-forward” PDF and save the super-secret sauce for a password-protected link. Ultimately, the format you choose can seriously influence your fundraising success—so pick whichever approach aligns with your priorities and makes it easiest for investors to say “yes.”
