TL/DR: Women's bodies belonging to anyone but themselves is not & could never be a good thing - particularly your old sexist white men in a trench coat version of Jesus.

It's a v common, manipulative formulation that's designed to make guilty evangelicals feel better about their sexism while luring vulnerable people on the fringes further into their communities.

Saw some evangelical article this morning that was talking about how women's bodies don't belong to their husbands or babies or capitalism or Instagram. They belong to JESUS. & I'm sorry, but that doesn't make your belief system better.

@gloriousbeth So the specific TYPES of intolerance we're talking about are bigotry vs. anti-bigotry. Being more general than this just serves to obfuscate and give cover to bigots who want to pretend their bigotry is somehow equivalent to our unwillingness to abide their bigotry. End TED talk!

Why does the intellectual discourse argument always have to = “please we MUST hear from the incredibly obvious bigots! We must take into account what the people who live in an idealogical sewer have to say!”
