i can’t describe how bleak/vitriolic that esquire sg q&a with “ai mackenyu” is. it had me revisiting great pieces i’ve loved about elusive interview subjects that managed to be written with so much respect, grace, and keen insight on their impact and the impression they’ve left:

⚠️This interview was AI generated I’m disappointed Esquire SG wrote an entire AI interview to replace Macken’s response. I doubt they did this with his consent. Was it impossible to publish the shoot without his interview?! Please keep in mind these answers are not his 🙏

btw i didn't just "upload" these images. i've invested so much and put in countless hours collecting issues, poring over pages, and scanning my selections. magazines are a hobby i've had for 20 years since i was little and it's so important to me to share the love i have for them

all they know is how to recycle "content" and slap their name or face on it without even attempting to contribute anything meaningful or make it their own. they don't want to put in the work because someone else already did so why bother. they're clueless instead of curious.

is everyone just on a mission to use my stuff without asking or what 😭

@MiaonaLisa i don't really mind reposts since there's very little i can do to contain them and it's more important for me to make pages accessible and pristine to look at! i guess i was looking for due diligence especially when this time it's one of the country's premier fashion magazines

1. if you were to create a series like this would you take a name you literally admit to knowing someone else is already using and just pluralize it without at least the courtesy of asking and 2. if you were me how would you feel and what would you do bc i honestly don't know

@glossyarchive this is weird, sorry this happening… i’m not sure there’s much that can be done besides reaching out to her & letting her know it’s not ok & move accordingly based on her response. if no accountability is taken, do exactly this 😹 eventually ppl will see who the original is

@me_dyas thanks for the input! it really just does come off as disrespectful from my pov overall. i also can't help but think of the possibility of things like the account/series blowing up, and now people would think i was the one who did the "referencing," which really doesn't sit right

@glossyarchive lots of nuance into this interaction that couldve been simplified by simple courtesy imo. though no one really owns it, picking a new name wouldve shown respect to her reference (you). her using the same name, makes me question her intentions, goodwill, novelty and creativity.
