Vos insultes et votre rage prouvent qu’on pose les bonnes questions. Ce n’est pas à cause des bombardements ou du « génocide » qu’il n’y a pas encore de pride à Gaza. C’est parce que, entre les tortures, les persécutions, les pressions familiales et les lynchages, la bande de Gaza est l’un des environnements les plus hostiles du monde aux homosexuels. Et une telle situation, médiévale, devrait mobiliser tous ceux qui défendent les droits des personnes LGBT, au lieu de les faire hurler contre ceux qui la dénoncent.

Where did you get that number? Has it been officially published anywhere? The most reliable figure published (and it's certainly bad enough) is from @HRANA_English, the most credible human rights organization, which is around 7000 with an additional 11K or so cases still under review. (One can assume some of those cases will be deaths.)

The prestige credential is not an education; it is a certification of trustworthiness to the right people. Obama and Macron were certified. They were then deployed – as faces, as voices, as affect – to give the technocratic agenda the one thing it lacked: someone you could believe in while it was being done to you. And so the opposition was neutralized from within. Not crushed – absorbed. Every genuine reform impulse channeled into the aesthetic register. Every legitimate frustration answered with a speech of extraordinary quality. The yellow vests got tear gas and a national dialogue. The American working class got eloquence and deindustrialization. The form of responsiveness; the substance of continuity. This is what the aestheticization of governance produces: a political class that governs through affect. Results become secondary to the sensation of competent leadership. The graph can trend downward so long as the press conference trends upward. Macron can preside over French strategic retreat across Africa, industrial hollowing, and demographic fracture – and remain, in the eyes of the right audiences, a statesman. Because he speaks like one. Because he looks like the future, which is the point. And then the darker question, the one that cannot be avoided: what if it is not incompetence? What if the sweet talk is not a bug but the mechanism itself – the delivery system for an agenda that could not survive honest description? Controlled demolition does not announce itself. It proceeds quietly, with reassuring language, managed timelines, and impeccable suits. The man who dismantles a civilization while calling it progress is more effective than the man who simply burns it down. Fire leaves evidence. Rhetoric leaves awards. Macron is European Obama. Both are gifted. Both are, in their respective registers, historic. And both will be studied – not as reformers who failed, but as the most elegant phase of a managed decline that chose its spokesmen well. The sweetness of the talk is the measure of what was being hidden. The more beautiful the promise, the more ruthless the math behind it. We have had enough beautiful promises. We know what they cost. France is ten years behind.
