@BeckiBenson2000 @RyanMarino You’re not alone. I would estimate that 75% of our patients on fentanyl patches needed to change them to 48 hrs due to end of dose failure

@nicksdjohnson I get the point, though - as financial surveillance intensifies and governments give themselves the power to seize unexplained assets with the help of banks and exchanges, using something like TC will look just as bad as having stolen funds.

@nicksdjohnson There is huge value in changing money from "definitely stolen" to "maybe suspicious". It opens up layering options that blacklisted the original address. From there, unless there are other red flags, "capital gains on NFT sale" will probably satisfy whoever is looking.

Can someone help me understand how someone would even use TC to launder money? You can use it to hide the source of funds, but the whole point of laundering is that it gives the money a legit looking paper trail. Any exchange is going to want to know where the funds came from.

@nicksdjohnson It's part of the laundering process. After they've broken the direct link to crime, they can put it through some other defi projects, maybe through TC again if they're really cautious, then do some wash trading on NFTs to give a sorta legit source of funds for integration.

@gmcmullen Anyone who cares about "tied to crime" is going to ask about source of funds though, right? They're not going to look at the account and go "oh, it came from TC, all good".

@nicksdjohnson Sure. Crook drains WeakDAO in exploit. ETH is now in address controlled by crook... but address is tied to crime, and so is any address crook sends funds to. Crook sends ETH to TC. TC mixes, pays ETH to another address crook controls. No more ties to crime. Steps 1-2 done.

@gmcmullen Can you provide a concrete example of using TC to launder?

@nicksdjohnson Crypto blurs the line between 1 and 2, since the money is already in the system, or the system is in the money. Might be a law journal article for someone in that.

@nicksdjohnson There are 3 steps to money laundering: 1. Placement: Get dirty money into financial system 2. Layering: Disguise laundering by putting steps between crime and money 3. Integration: Get clean-looking money into financial system TC doesn't do 3, but it helps for 1 & 2.
