might get really into "Bluetooth Low Energy". i just want my weird gadgets to be able to talk to each other in the cafe, without needing to tell them all how to get on the cafe Wi-Fi(???)

there's something really centralizing and monolithic about Wi-Fi in practice that i don't like. (i guess it's almost like a mesh network argument) you have your one Wi-Fi chip in your laptop/phone, and you connect it to the one Wi-Fi network run by the building you're in

What's a moment that changed your life? I'll start - I was on vacation in Palm Springs at a vegan cafe, sitting with my wife enjoying breakfast when I heard a familiar voice. I glanced at the door and spotted a bald guy walking out, and instantly recognized it was Andy Puddicombe from the Headspace app. I'd been getting into the app, and made sure to 'bump' into him in the parking lot to make a connection. Cringe? maybe. But it worked. I knew my current gig was ending soon, and a couple weeks later I emailed him to see if I could stop by the office. I worked on the app for 7 years, helped get it to a 3B valuation, matured as a designer, focused on my mindfulness practice, and became a dad. Never be afraid to shoot your shot! 🏀

@gmurphy At the time it struck me as this deep thought, but he may have just meant that we were doing such a poor job, our careers were likely to end with that project :).

A very long time ago, when we were both newhires at Google and working on adding bookmark sync to Firefox, @gmurphy shook his head sadly and said something I'll never forget:
"You realize we're going to be working on data sync for the rest of our careers right?"

The Rone exhibit at Flinders St station was absolutely stunning - the imagery, space design, details, light, and sound were all impeccable

So control over user agents will be an interesting battle - the big players will be bigger targets for publisher litigation; server-side agents will be much easier to block. It'll be game on to win consumer opinion quickly, and smaller players have an advantage here

A massive thing to think through is the ecosystem impact - abstracting away developer control has echos of the incentive issues that lead to no-one buying into the semantic web, but this time the the user agent is in control
