wilson's odyssey translation is great. i find the fagles translation is actually more full of clunky anachronisms, while lattimore is dry like cardboard. wilson's decision to use iambic pentameter is clever and highly effective.

We probably have ~3 years left where human labor still earns real money. After that, most of it gets automated to the point where it doesn't pay. This is the end of labor-based capitalism, the model where you trade hours for a wage and stack it over a 40-year career. The window open right now is an information asymmetry. A few people see it coming. Most are waiting for it to be obvious. That gap is the whole opportunity. What I'd do with the window: convert time into things that survive the transition. Bitcoin, hard assets, compute, energy, food production, and social credit/distribution A wage is rent on your time. Automate the time and the rent collapses. Owning scarce things is the esc The people who spend these three years hoarding capital will look like geniuses in ten. When wages stop compounding, guess whats left? ownership

the left as it exists today is a thousand time MORE susceptible to the kind of coercive propaganda and resulting groupthink (madness) that took hold of them in 2020. many have self-interested reasons to avoid discussing the period, but to brush it aside as irrelevant is foolish.

2020-2022 was a purge, the function of which was to clear out anyone on the left with the intellectual or spiritual capacity for dissent. the left that remains still controls most significant institutions (at least the ones not subject to democracy). the purge cannot be forgotten

no, what's going on now is rich people are obsessed with revolutionary politics; it's a form of rebellion, a psychic rejection of comfortable upbringings which wrack them with guilt, and it also allows people to feel young in a culture that doesn't allow them to age gracefully.
