Funny story. Nearly 40 years ago, Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment about a guy who robbed a bank and disappeared. Dude in the composite sketch looked a LOT like my dad. My younger sister was literally about to call 1-800-876-5353 and turn our own father in.

Thomas Sowell spent 50 years telling people what the data actually showed. They called him heartless. He was a Marxist in his 20s. Then he started looking at evidence instead of theory. The ideology didn’t survive contact with reality. Black poverty fell from 87% to 47% before the Great Society launched. Sowell noticed. The architects didn’t want to. He answered today’s poverty arguments 30 years ago. The refutations are in print. The arguments didn’t change. Neither did the outcomes. “It doesn’t matter how smart you are unless you stop and think.” The policies kept failing anyway.

Missing my dad right now. He passed away 10 years ago from a sudden heart attack while golfing. He was healthy—playing 100+ rounds a year—so it was the most shocking thing I’ve ever experienced. He served his mission in London, England, alongside Elder Holland and Elder Cook.
