For years on end I avoided games that had me play a male character as it felt weird to identify with that. If a girl character wasn't available I would avoid the game even if the story was great. And I know for a fact, cis women played male characters but you hardly got a complaint from them about that. Now here is a female character and men are losing their minds.

Wild concept: a story can center an important woman without deleting the man people already love. A Laufey-centered game would be another story inside the same mythic world, not Kratos being replaced. JoJo changes protagonists constantly and still remains JoJo. Part 6 gave us Jolyne, the first female JoJo and she didn’t erase Jotaro or anyone before her. In fact many fans consider her one of the strongest protagonists in the franchise.
