"Half the country fought to keep slavery and if they had won, we'd still have it presumably... this is kind of a self delusion or something or being intentionally obtuse." NYTimes columnist Charles Blow denounces GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's reparation remarks.

What a joyful night celebrating our young people and all the folks fighting for our systems to do right by our black and brown children. Who did that? WE DID THAT! The people in power are no match for the power of the people. @CEJNYC @UYC_YouthPower

@SpeakerPelosi @realDonaldTrump Pelosi is harming America by stonewalling impeachment. She is communicating a message that the contents of the Mueller report aren’t significant enough to lead to an impeachment inquiry. It’s beyond ridiculous that we have to protest both Trump/GOP *and* the Dem Speaker.

.@realDonaldTrump’s new threat of mass deportation is an act of utter malice & bigotry. Instead of making constructive efforts to address the root causes of the situation in Central America, he unleashes threats designed to inject fear in our communities. speaker.gov/newsroom/61819/

We’ve come a long way, but we’ve got further to go to achieve full equality and healing. That’s why I’m also proud to support #HR40 and am encouraged by today’s hearing on reparations. So as we celebrate #Juneteenth, let’s also take today to reflect on the work ahead.

On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers marched to Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War had ended and that slavery was abolished. More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, around 250,000 slaves had yet to be freed in Texas. #Juneteenth
