@goldfionch @staraddi if you want to take from the text itself, take the fact that we’re shown through multiple characters (andrew, nicky, jean) that their physical, sexual, and mental abuse pointedly did not affect their sexuality. neil learns about himself from these people directly.

@hitchups @staraddi i get what you’re saying but i think i disagree. i think it’s more that trauma affects every aspect of his life and how he interacts with people, and by extension the expression and understanding of his sexuality. not that it could change who u are, but how u interact with ppl

@goldfionch @staraddi i think that’s because “trauma can affect your sexuality” is not only factually incorrect, but also not a great thing for any queer person to hear. it’s also exactly the opposite of what the series as a whole is trying to say.

@hitchups @staraddi nora has said a lot of things, i generally like to take my interpretations from the text itself. i’m also demi. i just think that neil’s trauma definitely played a part in his sexuality in a way that i don’t see anyone acknowledging.

@goldfionch @staraddi and, yes, nora has stated quite a few times that neil IS demi, like herself. you can interpret the text however you want but it’s not “brave” to ignore nora saying he’s demi outright. demi also was not a common term in 2006!
