If you want a permit to park a car in Cardiff - £35 for the year. If you want to securely store a bike in Cardiff - £120 for the year. As far as I can tell, the most expensive cycle hangar scheme in the entire UK! For comparison; Bristol £55, Bath £60, S. Gloucestershire £72 Why?
Cardiff Council@cardiffcouncil

New secure Bikehangars are being installed across Cardiff. 17 hangars – each holding 6 bikes – will be added to residential streets in Canton, Riverside, Plasnewydd, Cathays and Splott this month, making cycling easier and more secure. More here: orlo.uk/Yd1Ko

The city centre car park has had its day. There is now a significant opportunity to put the land previously used for car parking to much more productive use. Land that could be used for tens of thousands of homes in city centres. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I've always quite liked this row of red brick houses on Penarth Road in Grangetown. They'd look lovely cleaned, restored and repaired.

🚨NEW: Almost 60% of all eligible homes in South Tottenham have extended upward and added more bedrooms. The same area can now adequately house over 1,000 more people but without any drastic changes – and all driven by local people! 🏘️ ✍️Our new article ‘Upward extensions: making our cities fit for families’ sets out how this happened. An example before vs after📸

- "New" County Hall that looks like a Premier Inn - £50million+ - Renovate "existing" County Hall thats less than 40 years old - £140million+ - Glamorgan County Hall in Cathays Park that was sold off in 1997 to Cardiff University- £5.2million

County Hall isn't even 40 years old! We need to stop building substandard buildings that can't even make it to "retirement age" + start building with "forever" in mind. But I'm sure the "new" County Hall will follow the same "Fast Fashion" approach & be designed to be demolished.

I dont think the Zenith building in Cardiff would be as despised if it had been turned so the windows faced out towards the Bay, rather than over the railway line. The design that was built has it's "back" to most people who pass it. From the railway side its nowhere near as bad.

@LyndonRosser Raddison isn't *as* bad. The "back" faces the railway at least. And even then, they've put cladding to imply windows. I assume its to do with temperature, and its worth consideration, but how your building is viewed from the street for the next 50+ years is also very important.

@DarrenAldridge I agree with the lettering. Not sure why it's become a thing with student accommodation buildings. Looks terrible.

@gomedia91 It could have been less hated had they simply omitted the contrasting black cladding on the upper floors and the large “ZENITH” lettering. It’s these cheap and crass attempts to grab attention that turn it from underwhelming to offensive

The other side is far better, with some visual interest at the crown with those tapered columns. Just, nobody can see it, and even fewer will as more buildings go up. A bizarre choice.

I think Barry would benefit from a new "Central" station at the junction of Holton Rd & Broad St. Still 3 platforms, but practically in the middle of town on the high street. Combined with a bus interchange & multistorey car park. Not sure what to do with existing stations tho.
