At Kinkole General Reference Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, a disturbing scene captured on video shows a doctor physically assaulting a woman after childbirth. The woman had just given birth. She had tears from delivery and needed urgent stitching to stop the bleeding. Instead of proper care and pain relief, she was struck by the doctor while in a vulnerable state. The doctor has been identified. The case has been reported to the Medical Council, and an investigation is underway . No woman should be treated this way, especially not in a moment when she needs care and dignity the most. I call on the health authorities in the DRC to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure the safety of every patient.
