Le Parc National des Virunga est heureux d’annoncer que la femelle Serundori a donné naissance à un bébé mâle, qui vient agrandir la famille Masibo.⁠ Formée en octobre 2025 après la séparation de la famille Kabirizi, la troupe est dirigée par le dos argenté Masibo, fils de Kabirizi, qui a emmené 13 individus avec lui. Virunga National Park is pleased to announce that female Serundori gave birth to a male infant, joining the Masibo family.⁠ ⁠ Formed in October 2025 after splitting from the Kabirizi family, the group is led by the silverback Masibo, son of Kabirizi, who left the original group with 13 individuals. In the plains of the Park's central sector, buffaloes exist in complex relationships with birds. Dans les plaines du secteur central du Parc, les buffles entretiennent des relations complexes avec les oiseaux. Sur ces photographies, des éléphants de savane parcourent la zone de Kinyonzo, dans le secteur central du Parc. In these photographs, savanna elephants roam the area of Kinyonzo, in the Park’s central sector. Ils ont été nommés Uzima et Urithi, symboles de vie, de survie, d’héritage et de continuité. Leur mère, Mafuko, continue de faire preuve d’une résilience remarquable, prenant soin avec attention des deux nouveau-nés malgré les exigences supplémentaires liées aux jumeaux. Les jumeaux, qui s’agrippent fermement à elle, commencent à effectuer de petits mouvements et à développer leur coordination. On March 3rd, the Bageni family twins reached two months — a historic milestone for Virunga National Park. They have been named Uzima and Urithi, symbols of life, survival, heritage, and legacy. Their mother, Mafuko, continues to show remarkable resilience, caring attentively for both infants despite the extra demands of twin care. The twins, clinging tightly to her, are beginning to make small movements and develop coordination. By the end of their third month, we hope they will begin to move independently for the first time. Our monitoring team remains fully committed, following the family’s movements and providing daily support during these crucial early months. During a routine monitoring mission on 20 February 2026, community trackers directly witnessed a mother gorilla giving birth to her baby in the Munyaga family. A remarkable moment that highlights the commitment of our field teams and their close monitoring of this iconic species.⁠ ⁠ Observations confirmed that the mother is Bilali and that her baby is a female.⁠ ⁠ Coming just three days after the previous birth in the same family, this new arrival brings the group to 14 individuals, reflecting encouraging growth for the Munyaga family and making the close succession of these two births particularly notable.⁠ ⁠ Since the beginning of 2026, this is the fifth gorilla birth recorded in the Park, an achievement made possible thanks to support from the European Union and UNESCO.⁠ 📸 Virunga National Park #WorldWildlifeDay #GorillaConservation #DRC⁠ @EU_Commission @EU_Partnerships @UNESCO
