Most of these are runner's foot, NOT fungus! It's typically caused by wearing steel toe shoes or poor fitting sneakers. When walking/working, your foot slides forward, causing the tip of the toe to rub or jam against the toe cap, leading to bleeding. The blood is trapped under the nail and turns black. The nail gets brittle or porous from the trauma and lack of oxygen and deforms or falls off completely
