Putco Driver Education Workshop Mr Thabo Makwena from the Road Accident Fund presented comparative statistics on road fatalities during the Easter period, noting a significant decrease from 335 fatalities in 2024 to 167 in 2025 — a 45.6% reduction. He commended drivers for this improvement and encouraged them to continue prioritising safety. He also stressed the importance of regular medical check-ups to ensure drivers remain fit for duty. GTP Spokesperson Mr Sello Maremane further urged drivers to monitor passenger luggage and prevent overloading, as excessive weight can compromise vehicle stability and overall safety, as well as lead to non-compliance with regulations. #Roadsafety #GrowingASaferGauteng

Putco Driver Education Workshop Chief Provincial Inspector Makgalwa from Gauteng Traffic Police reinforced compliance with the National Road Traffic Act, stressing that all buses must be roadworthy and properly maintained. He reminded drivers of the importance of being medically fit and carrying all required documentation, including valid operating permits and a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). He further encouraged drivers to obey speed regulations, avoid overloading, and ensure that all vehicles are equipped with the necessary emergency equipment, with personnel trained in its use. CPI Makgalwa also highlighted the importance of conducting pre-trip inspections using checklists, coordinating convoy travel where necessary, and ensuring the availability of relief drivers for long-distance journeys. These measures are important in strengthening compliance and reducing road-related risks. #Roadsafety #GrowingASaferGauteng
