Hello friends, I'm re-activating my account for today to say that I've migrated over to mastodon, and am having a fun time over there. I have 2 accounts. Follow .art for my art side and foss for my programming stuff. @gregtatum" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mastodon.art/@gregtatum @gregtatum" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">fosstodon.org/@gregtatum

@gr3gtatum @netpro2k But is that really secure? I read that server owners could just get access to basically everything in there, I know that's like any other company service, but the incentives are not the same :D

@realtron You may leave posts behind, you can export and import various things. I also see some people host their own instance, then you would be in control of your data directly. I'm feeling a bit blasé about it right now after burning down 1600 followers.

@gr3gtatum I’ve been curious about migration. Some others have said they lost followers/posts in the process. Maybe it depends on the host

@fernandojsg Twitter lately for me has felt more like shouting into the void, unless I say something critical, in which the algorithms pick it up and promote it.

@fernandojsg Yeah it's definitely not Twitter. I made a bit of a mental shift of, this may not be all of my old friends in one place, but I'll make lots of new friends in smaller more intimate places. Engagement on individual posts seems to be a lot higher, at least right now.

If you join one of the big servers you may get some latency since the servers are growing like crazy right now. It's pretty easy to just pick something random, and then later migrate your account to a new server. I've already done it once and took my followers with me.

If you want any help getting set up on mastodon, I suggest finding a small server and community to join, and start making friends there. A lot of the bigger ones are stopping invites because of the user growth. Having a good community join is key.

How am I just learning about `git commit -fixup HASH` and setting `git config --global rebase.autosquash true`. It makes it really fast to rewrite your commit history with a commit and a quick rebase.

@asutherland Here you can see where it's not giving me the trait implementation, or any way to get to it. Effectively this means I can't use any type information to find implementation details.

@asutherland You can see here, choosing to go to references lists anything that references the general from method on the From trait. I'm pretty much better off grepping things manually.

In Rust is there a way to use rust-analyzer to trace through From and Into implementations? The moment there is an `into()` my ability to navigate the code sucks.

In contrast, if I write a MyErrorType::to_string method, I can trivially trace that through the codebase using rust-analyzer. This feels less idiomatic, but practically easier to read and understand.

For instance, I have MyErrorType that implements From<MyErrorType> for String, can I get a list of all uses of that in the codebase?

@jorendorff I know a decent amount of people in the digital space I would consider eventually getting in the art text books, but I don't think the field is particularly considered "fine art" yet, so for those I definitely think you have to be old and die to get there :D

@jorendorff Yeah, the other I was going to mention was Christo and Jeanne-Claude, but they passed away in 2009 and 2020. Although they were doing amazing work up until the end, and gave a talk here in Tulsa, so it feels very contemporary.

Can you name a living "fine art" artist? Here are the most recent works pictured in Wikipedia's "Fine art" article: - An Oak Tree, Michael Craig-Martin, 1973 - The Tetons and the Snake River, Ansel Adams, 1942 - Lampshade, Man Ray, 1920 - Black Square, Kazimir Malevich, 1915
