@CommonsSITC @ChiOnwurah This is very worrying, the PM here explaining that they have the blinkers on for quantum and AI. Important areas but cutting all other physics will cripple so many sectors skills pipeline particularly in nuclear.

@the_cynical1 @DrAllyLouks Clinicians aren’t really doctors. The term comes the fact that clinicians used to do a PhD, most don’t now (it was felt on the job training as a junior clinician was better) but they incorrectly kept the title. So yes clinicians need a new title, as Dr should mean doing a PhD

@DrAllyLouks We need a new prefix for people with academic PhD's. "Dr" should mean something.

I’m trying to follow the great farming debate but, as an economics illiterate, I’m baffled. If a farm has a nominal value of, say, £3m but generates an income of only c. £40k, how can it really be worth that much? This is not, bt dubs, a loaded question. I’m interested.

@ThePhysicsMemes Well you definitely picked the wrong subject, theoretical physics just has more questions. I believe you want experimental physics for answers.

@XRPSPEED @rickygervais @TomFlanner99201 Do religious people ever wonder if they picked the wrong one? The difference between sects is minuscule and get it slightly wrong and they believe they are going to hell. If I’m wrong it was unlikely I would have picked the right one anyway (it would be an old obscure one)

@Chris_Segroves @DKiSAerospace @DrChrisCombs After discovering electromagnetic (the basis for all telecommunications) Faraday was asked by the prime minister what was it for and he replied “I know not, but I wager that one day your government will tax it”

@DKiSAerospace @DrChrisCombs 👀 Dude, you are not a serious person. People do science when it has value, because it produces things people will pay for. The government doesn’t exist to blow money on things that doesn’t produce value. They exist to keep people from killing each other.

@DrBrianKeating Because you chose two quantities that gave those answers. If you chose say the size of a proton and the universe the geometric mean would be much larger.

The geometric mean of the size of a neutrino and the size of the universe (90 Giga light years) is ~ 1 meter. The geometric mean of the age of the universe since the formation of the elements (last known physics, ~1 nanosecond) and the age of the universe (14 billion years) is approximately one day. The geometric mean of the mass of a typical galaxy and the mass of a neutrino is 1000 kg. Why are these values so close to human scale units?

@CorriganPaul @MichaelRosenYes You are making an assumption that private schools are better, while they get higher school grades, the students struggle at university without all the extra help (unless they go to oxbridge and still get the tutors). Studies show they are 8% less likely to get a 2.1 or better

@MichaelRosenYes My preference is for places to be open to all at 11+ if they pass an entrance test. The state pays a bursary equivalent to state school cost and schools need to take them. In return make fees tax deductible for middle earners and taper it as salary rises and deduction not needed.

Statistic wanted please in order to justify claim that private education is being used by people who 'scrimp and save'. Further statistic needed that if VAT is put on, that this group will not be able to afford private education. Gross numbers and/or percentages please.
