@TheWarKitchen Because it’s not a celebration if everyone’s asleep by nine.

Sup guys, I’m Neel - I moved to SF two weeks ago to build a coffee shop!
I think SF is a beautiful city full of really interesting people doing incredible things. No other city better encapsulates the expression of human agency, and I love the “you can just do things” culture of building, especially in tech.
But I feel like this “culture” has been over-optimized in one direction. As a city, we’ve become too focused on technology and solving problems, and we’ve forgotten about the things that actually make life worth living - dance, poetry, paintings, music, and other expressions of beauty and creativity.
We’re slowly seeing some of that seep back into the city, but I think there is still a big cultural hole. Compared to New York, there is much less diversity of things people engage in, and much less depth to the things they do. As an example - in NYC you might pass 5 leather studios on your morning walk, but in SF, you’ll be hard pressed to find a single one.
It’s so much harder here to find tasteful shops and boutiques, even harder to find third spaces that actively encourage the arts, and nearly impossible to go to a party without having a conversation about AI.
I want to try and change that, and I think the best vehicle for me to do that is through a coffee shop/third space that consciously attracts artists and creatives who are kind, curious, and energetic. I also hope that eventually, this coffee shop begets various kinds of microcultures (e.g of fashion, carpentry, design, literature, etc) and acts as a catalyst for creativity.
I don’t have a clear answer as to how I’m going to do this, but I have a few ideas. If you have any thoughts or if anything I said resonates with you, please reach out! Would love to grab (or make you) coffee!

The only "air refreshener" you'll need is the whiff of freshly ground coffee @graffeocoffee 😮💨

"Walter Haas, co-owner of San Francisco-based Graffeo Coffee Roasting Company, says that even with the inflated prices, there is still a lane for ultra-premium brew.
'When we raised prices, we saw no drop in sales — online, in-store, or wholesale,' Haas says. He added that ultra-premium coffee is a daily ritual, and people aren’t giving it up.
'And when it’s as good as ours, you’d probably skip breakfast before downgrading your morning cup,'"
