@thenitinsawhney She shouldn’t be allowed to write obits. Her pieces for Tom Parker & Sarah Harding were mean-spirited & awful.

What’s going on with this obit on wonderful #SineadOConnor ? It’s so negatively framed. “she was constitutionally unable to compromise her values.” It’s called conviction. She was a person of conviction and principles. Something we could all learn from… theguardian.com/music/2023/jul…

It is time isn’t it? If anyone wants to keep in touch, I’m @graniaobrien over on Instagram & Threads, and I’m just as inactive as I am here.

@tomlamont Gosh, I never expected an article about fish and chips to bring tears to my eyes. A beautiful read, thank you.

A year ago I saw a news item warning that half the UK’s fish and chip shops might close. I chose an area of excellence for the dish, the East Neuk of Fife, and hung around to see how they coped. It was a lot. Please read if you have time. Shop local. Tx theguardian.com/food/2023/jul/…

Very important question for a Monday morning: do people still crowdsurf, or am I standing too far back these days?

I’ve set up a Threads account and am loving it, but I can’t quite bring myself to give up the OG 🫠

I’ve fallen down such an early Radiohead wormhole & it’s reminded me just how good they are. And how unexpectedly, exceptionally good they are at covers.

It seems very fitting that a man who was always last to go to bed should pass on the longest day.

Essentially waiting for someone to die of sepsis & organ failure because we are unable to humanely intervene.

This isn’t to fault the care he has received in hospital which has been exemplary. Just that it is a horrible, slow and painful way to go.

My dad died nearly 18 years ago. Father’s Day has generally lost its pain, and my main job over the last few years has been to remind R to send a card to his own dad. This year it feels a lot harder.
