In Jamaica’s picturesque Montego Bay, @TheTryallClub is home to an 18-hole course from Ralph Plummer (updated in 2019 by @GreenGCA) defined by ocean views, ever-present trade winds, and stone aqueducts incorporated into the design that previously supplied the sugar plantation’s waterwheel. 📸: courtesy The Tryall Club

Listen to the excitement…embrace the challenge to whatever extent you want…the thrill of success is what legendary shots give the game of golf.

@jliebertgolf @MidwestGolfJake @GreenGCA 205 yard 6 iron to 18’ or so. Probably one of the better shots of my life and glad it was caught on video. Money games can get fun out at Karsten because the winner of the last hole picks the tee on the next. Only 3 out the 5 avoided the trouble on this one!

Golf-loving parents yearn to have their children love the game as much as they do. There are things you can do to improve the odds that they’ll be hitting the links with you. 🔗: on.wsj.com/4cjbgS8

@LinksGems @MarionGolfClub If you want to experience early American golf in its purest form…go play here! I got to enjoy this loop with my oldest son and it is a life memory. George Thomas was the greatest “listener” in golf architecture history…the difference between this and Riv are light years apart

As always, last night’s Kittansett post brought a flood of requests for a nearby nine-holer that every true golf course architecture nerd must see: Marion Golf Club, a 1904 design by the famed George Thomas (Riviera, LACC, Bel-Air) criss-crossed with ancient stone walls, earthen cops and irregular bunkers. It’s quirky, it’s funky, it’s publicly accessible, it’s a bargain, and it’s an absolute delight to play.

Thanks, Jon! A lot of hard work and trust by the members made this a reality. (Your digital cup didn’t hurt 😄)
LinksGems@LinksGems

For the last 11 calendar quarters, going back to Q3 2023 when I saw the remarkable restoration work by @GreenGCA, I’ve been posting at the USGA asking for the next available U.S. Open to go to Inverness. Today, those posts were answered - the @USGA has awarded the 145th U.S. Open Championship in 2045 to Inverness! While I’m not so full of myself to think that the clanging of my digital cup had any impact on this decision whatsoever, I’m nevertheless thrilled for the club, the membership, and Andrew Green. The club is one of the most historic in golf, the course is absolutely terrific and will be a wonderful venue, and the membership are fantastic stewards of the game and its traditions. Congrats to all - great move by the USGA!

In July 2027, @atlantaathclub will begin a transformation of its famed Highlands Course—host of the 1976 U.S. Open, 3 PGA Championships (1981, 2001, 2011), 1990 U.S. Women’s Open, 2014 U.S. Amateur, and 2021 KMPG Women’s PGA Championship—led by @GreenGCA. The new course is expected to be complete by Fall 2028. Green was influenced in planning the transformation by the accomplishments of Bobby Jones—a lifelong member and former president of AAC—as both a player and architect, particularly Jones’s relationship with Alister MacKenzie with whom he designed Augusta National Golf Club. “Articles that were written about Jones, MacKenzie, and Augusta National started to speak to me,” explained Green, “combining MacKenzie’s 13 principles of golf architecture with the thoughtfulness of Jones and what he said about what they were going to try to achieve, and did achieve, at Augusta. I thought if that’s what Jones thought was most important, that should be an inspiration for us on Highlands.” Green will aim to give each hole distinct character with uniquely shaped greens; short, long, and half-par holes; and designing shots that Jones reminisced about playing in Scotland and around the British Isles. The club celebrates the 100th anniversary of Jones’s Grand Slam and hosts its second U.S. Amateur on both its courses in 2030, and hosts the U.S. Women’s Amateur on the Highlands course in 2035. 📸: Gary Kellner
