On October 11, 1991, the German evangelist Reinhard Bonnke planned a large Christian crusade in the Northern Nigerian city of Kano. The military government minimized the atrocity, reporting a death toll of only 100 to 200. But survivors and eyewitnesses testify that more than 500 Christians lost their lives. These acts were not committed by foreign terrorists. They were carried out by ordinary Muslims neighbors who knew the people they were killing. The very kind of Muslims some would call friends. The crusade was canceled. The victims received no justice. No compensation ever came. Today, some of those who wielded the machetes or their children can be found online, declaring that Islam is a religion of peace. They accuse others of Islamophobia. They deny that any Christian genocide is happening in Nigeria. They can rewrite the narrative, but they cannot change the truth. They can kill the body, but they cannot kill the soul. They can burn down buildings, but they cannot tear down the Kingdom. For two thousand years, the forces of darkness have hurled themselves against the Church and for two thousand years, the Church still stands. They have tried silence, they have tried fire, they have tried the sword. Yet here we are because Jesus is on our side. The gates of Hell shall not prevail.

I think at some point we’re going to realize how much memories matter, and just like our parents we’re going to start taking a lot of pictures.. then there will be so many to show our kids too and be proud of
