Harry Kane is England's target-man, talisman, record man and it was no absolutely no surprise to hear Thomas Tuchel describing his captain as "key" for the team out here at the World Cup. Tuchel outlined the circumstances when Olly Watkins or Ivan Toney would come on for Kane but also voiced his extreme reluctance to imagine a game without Kane on the field. Kane has played 56 times for Bayern Munich and England this season (66 goals) but Tuchel is not worried about his captain tiring. “Harry is, of course, a key player," Tuchel said at England's hotel in West Palm Beach after training. "There is no doubt about that, no secret about that. And, of course, we take care of our key players, but we want our key players also on the pitch.” Kane has 10 goals in his last 10 games for England, has a record 78 goals in 112 appearances and will be eager to play against New Zealand in Miami on Saturday. Tuchel knows he has to rotate Kane occasionally with Watkins and Toney, especially in temperatures that could flirt with 30C. “Ideally we can take some minutes off him, but if the matches are close, do we really do this? If the matches are undecided do we take our skipper off? Do we take our main goal threat off? Maybe not.” Tuchel has seen Kane’s form and commitment in training in and out of possession at Palm Beach Gardens. “Harry is in top shape, he showed that (also) in defensive training. He’s used to high pressing. He's used to a high intensity in the opponents’ half with Bayern Munich. That's what he shows. We don't have to be worried about him at all. He’s just showed the whole week that he's ready and is determined.” Tuchel emphasised Kane’s strong end to the club season. The 32-year-old scored home and away against Paris St-Germain (although Bayern went out in their Champions League semi-final 6-5 on agg). “He was so influential in Munich's (triumphant Bundesliga) campaign and for the semi-final in the Champions League. He then scores three in the (German) Cup final (win over Stuttgart).” He's a phenomenon. As for Kane's understudies, Watkins and Toney, Tuchel said, “The two other No 9s are very different. Olly is more the guy to start for Harry if we think Harry should not start (ie, rest him). He is (the man) to keep the intensity up, to keep the press going, and that is the strength of Olly. "Ivan is a finisher of matches. Maybe (fulfilling) a special task to take the attention of defenders off Harry, and we can play with a second striker. He's very good in the box, very good with set-pieces, good penalty-taker, trains on a high level, brilliant attitude and that shows it was right to take him. We have some options - but Harry is the main guy.” #ENG
